Festival fiending: Green Square Gourmet Food Festival

Food-loving Sydney has probably spent the last couple of weeks fitting Crave Sydney International Food Festival events into diaries and budgets. I certainly do that every year, and it's always great to see exciting new events alongside annual traditions.

For me, there can never be enough outdoor food festivals (especially those with booze!). This year, the Green Square community has its own food festival as part of Crave. If the suburb of Green Square doesn't ring a bell, perhaps Zetland may or even Waterloo, at a stretch.

Renamed within the last decade, Green Square encompasses the transformed old industrial area of Zetland - previously home to the likes of a glass factory and an incinerator.

Now, it's inner city residential living, surrounded by the likes of Danks Street, Supa Centre and the increasingly fashionable and trendy hubs of Alexandria and Redfern.

On Saturday, 6 October from 10am to 4pm, Joynton  Park, nestled within the Victoria Park block right near Supa Centre, will be hosting the first ever Green Square Gourmet Food Festival, presented by Martin.

The event will feature outdoor food stalls by Longrain, Danks Street Depot, The French House, East Ocean, Adamo's Pasta and more. I'm hanging out for the cocktail bar featuring Longrain, with other brews by Lord Nelson Breweries, Swinging Vineyard wines and a Pimms feature.

There's plenty for the kids and pets too, though I wonder if I'm too big for a pony ride. There's parking onsite but also available at the nearby Supa Centre, and plenty of public transport options.

After the day's festival there's a luxurious pop-up long dinner planned in a marquee at Joynton Park. Entrees will be taken care of by Jared Ingersoll and Danks Street Depot, mains by Martin Boetz and Longrain, and desserts by The French House. See more information and buy tickets for the pop-up dinner here.
